Summary:
Responsible for Safety Support and facilitating program execution for operations on the RFK Bridge Project in New York City. Assist operations in accident preventions, hazards recognition and control. Facilitate safety meetings and training as required. Actively observe for all unsafe conditions or acts. Assist all employees in developing hazard identification skills. Assist with accident/incident investigations and reports, including near misses. Provide injury management from the initial incident/accident through the complete cycle of managing the injured employee. Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of construction safety experience. OSHA outreach (e.g., OSHA 500 & 30-hour training) and current first aid/CPR certifications a plus.
Requirements:
0 to 5 years experience working as a Safety Representative.
Demonstrated training and management skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA regulations as applied to the construction industry.
Ability to understand, interpret and apply regulatory requirements applicable to the project scope of work.
Possess professional qualifications and knowledge of fall protections systems, the control of hazardous materials, electrical safety, permit-required confined spaces, excavation trenching and shoring, crane and rigging, scaffolding, demolition safety, hazard communication, accident investigation and reporting.
Leads safety training sessions as necessary. May manage a safety staff.
Responsibilities:
• Provide communication, training and enforcement of policies to staff.
• Makes recommendations on safety improvements.
• Conduct job hazards analyses to identify hazards and potential risks.
• Complete workplace safety audits and ensure remedial action where necessary.
• Implement and enforce accident prevention plans and activity hazard analysis, and ensure contractor compliance with all safety and health requirements.
• Conducts daily walk through of the site ensuring work is being accomplished safely and occupational health is not compromised.
• Interpret and apply regulatory requirements applicable to the project scope of work.
• Develop site-specific safety programs/plans to include emergency actions, response, evacuation and security plans. • Conduct daily safety and health inspections and mishap investigations.
• Provide safety indoctrination to all construction site visitors and new employees.
Other Skills and Abilities:
•Must be able to legally work in the United States.
•Must be willing to work in a drug-free environment and agree to a post offer drug test.
•Must be willing to work safely and keep OSHA recordable incidents to a minimum.
•Comprehensive knowledge of industry standards and specialty bridge design software; must be proficient with MS Office.
•Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively plan and organize to meet project deadlines.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
May be responsible for the supervision of one or more Health and Safety Representatives.
Education and/or Experience:
A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent combination of education and experience.
